If PKing is one of your favorite activities in Runescape, you need to download Perfect World and give it a try now. It’s free to download and play. Perfect World has been around for quite a while now, yet still maintains a very large player base. Is it as large as Runescape? Absolutely not, but very few games even come close. PWI is about roughly 20% the size of Runescape’s player base among all servers and countries. The concept is the same with all the traditional RPG features such as questing, monster killing, leveling up, etc. The PVP system is phenomenal and you can find yourself lost in hours of great game play. The only downside to the game is the fact that you can buy your weapon upgrades and such from the game developer. It’s hard to say this is a downside though because this cuts out the plague of bots and farmers. The best weapons surely don’t guarantee you any success in the PVP system. Give Perfect World a try and let us know what you think of it!
For those of you looking for a game with a player base equally as large as Runescape with better graphics and interface, check out Last Chaos. Players partake in an endless battle on the continent of “Iris.” You embark on quests and level up just like Runescape. However, it will require a broadband connection, and a somewhat up to date computer. The best part about this game is that it’s free. With a player base over 2 million, the game is definitely worth a look.
Conquer Online is up there in popularity with Runescape. Best of all, it is free forever. The player base easily surpasses the million mark, and they have great PVP combat. There are four basic classes, the warrior, the trojan, the fire taoist, and the archer. Not many games like Runescape offer the qualities of Runescape, for free. The game can be run on almost any computer, however you do have to download a big client, which is not that big of a deal considering almost everybody uses broadband anyway. If you are looking for a great game like Runescape, I highly suggest getting signed up and checking it out for yourself.
Sea Fight is an interesting spin to free MMORPGs. Not only is registration and membership free, but you can win prizes as well. The prizes range from a $50 to $20,000! Players can battle other ships, plunder islands, customize battle equipment, and much more in this live online game. The graphics are nothing like Runescape, and the client is completely different, however many Runescape players will enjoy this unique game.
I LOVE the concept of this game. Unlike most game developers, the Planeshift team intends on keeping this game free. I’ve been watching this game develop alongside Runescape for a long time and it has come a long way. The game is nowhere near complete, but the game creators have all the intention to make this a game with many features like Runescape. Eventually player houses, a very nice combat system (with a much better magic system that Runescape) and a full scale economy will be developed. The great thing about joining a developing game is being able to master the game before the mainstream gamer crowd flocks to it. Of course, you’ll never completely be able to master it since many features are still in development, you can still submit your input on the game, which the developers will take into much more consideration compared to Runescape and other games like Runescape. You get to choose from several races, dwarves, elves, humans, and more. There are several variations within with unique names and features such as Ylians, Dermorians, Clan Stonebreakers, and Klyros. I highly suggest taking a look at this game and keeping an eye on it’s development because it seems very promising.
Ok ok, before determining whether it’s a worthy game comparable to Runescape, let’s take a look at what they claim… They claim to have heart-pumping PvP in a Fantasy MMORPG where you can choose sides in an epic conflict between El Morad and Karus. Does this sound like Runescape? Sounds more like WoW. Anywho, moving on. You get to decide between a sorcery-wielding mage, a stoic Priest, a bone-crushing warrior, or shadowy Rogue. You can fight in bi-weekly wars and castle sieges as well. You can fight in a permanent PvP environment. Okay. PERMANENT PvP environment. I like the sound of that. It basically sounds up like a beefed up version of Runescape. I like the concept. This is definitely a full screen client, unlike Runescape. The graphics are much better than Runescape as well. Viewing the screenshots on their main sight, it appears that they have marketplaces and huge congregations just like Runescape. I’m going to check this game out further, and I may consider it as a feature game of the month. If you are looking for a great game like Runescape, consider Knight Online.
Smart move. With a java game like Runescape, it’s easy to recruit new players with an easily accessable client and good graphics. However…. They still eliminated pking, staking, and transferring gold, some of the most important aspects of the game. Player killing was clearly one of the most popular elements of the game. Bounty hunter may be like pking, but it’s not an effective replacement. Just take a look at the Runescape home page and look at how many people are playing. The average has dropped significantly ever since they removed the great aspects of the game.
So now, we will move onto new games, like the old Runescape. Use the navigation on the right to find more games. The next game like Runescape that I will be reviewing is Knight Online.
Utopia is a browser based game that I’ve enjoyed playing over the years. It’s not an mmorpg, but it’s a browser based ticked game. It has the fantasy and war elements of Runescape, but requires more strategy to succeed. You start off as a province in a kingdom, and you have to build your defenses and you attack other players. Your kingdom declares wars on other kingdoms, and the wars can get brutal. There are races such as avian, faery, elf, undead, orc, and dark elf. All of them have different bonuses. You get to choose the race of your province and several other features. Take a look, you might enjoy it. It’s a good game to play aside Runescape.
Ok, well I know you thought it would be impossible to find a game with worse graphics than Runescape, clearly not. However, Dragon Court is a fun game that kills time. Forget the graphics. It’s really repetitive, but for some reason it’s addicting. Not exactly a game like Runescape, but if you like killing time, give it a try.
My featured game of the month is Eve Online.
Breathtaking graphics, expanding player base, and an upcoming expansion make it an excellent Runescape alternative.
Eve Online is clearly based on a different genre, which I believe many Runescape fans will find compelling.
Why Eve Online over Runescape?
*Level up tasks are not repetitive and do not require constant attention, unlike Runescape. Runescape requires hours of attention to make an impact in the game.
*New players stand a fighting chance throughout combat. There are alliances of new players that band together to combat the more experienced players.
*The community is much more mature and friendly compared to Runescape.
I have only pointed out a few obvious reasons as to why the game is superior. Take a look for yourself.
Eve-Online is one of the many numerous games like Runescape. Please utilize the navigation on the left to see many more great alternatives.
